ABOUT SARAH

Fuelled by her passion for languages, culture and communicating globally, Sarah Carroll has founded three businesses:

The first is Grow Global (www.growglobal.co.uk), a niche business consultancy supporting companies looking to attract more international customers from new international markets.  We help companies win more business & increase their revenue, whether through importing, exporting or serving multicultural customers at home. As part of this work, Sarah is an Export Communications Consultant registered with the UK Government’s Trade and Investment and has delivered over 200 Export Communications Reviews. A review helps small and medium-sized companies communicate as effectively as possible with their customers, agents and distributors when exporting.  She was one of the authors of a national methodology for the international website review, which she rolled out to a national network of consultants in 2010.  Sarah is a regular speaker on the subject of optimising a website for international markets and has presented at workshops for UKTI London, UKTI South East, the British Chambers of Commerce & the London Chamber of Commerce.

The second is Language Advantage (www.languageadvantage.com), an international website which recommends the best and most innovative ways for adults and children to learn a new language for holiday, study, travel or business.

Thirdly and finally, Sarah is an author of a series of self-study business language courses. She is author of the Teach Yourself Business language and culture series (www.teachyourselfbusiness.com). Teach Yourself Business French and Teach Yourself Business Spanish were published in 2007, closely followed by Teach Yourself Business Japanese & Teach Yourself Business Mandarin in 2008.  She worked with Hodder Education in London to design the Teach Yourself Conversation audio-only series and carried out some exploratory work to assess the suitability of the Michel Thomas method for primary-aged children.

Sarah has lived and worked internationally. She started off by getting a BSc (Hons) in European Management Science (French) and an MPhil in IT from Swansea University in Wales. On the first year of the European Erasmus scheme, Sarah spent a year studying at Strasbourg University in France. She then spent 10 years with global management consultancies Accenture and Deloitte Consulting, where she worked with and managed multicultural and multilingual teams. She found out by harsh experience that it is really worth paying attention to ‘all this language and cultural stuff’ if you want to make things happen.

Sarah speaks fluent French and some German and Spanish. She is improving her Spanish in recognition of it being one of the next world business languages.  She is also a qualified French teacher for adults & ran a breakfast language club for primary-aged children in Brighton, UK, teaching over 100 children French, Spanish & German.
